Document Management System (DMS) Integration
Last updated: March 10, 2026
Overview
Document Management System (DMS) integration is Eve's ability to connect with external document storage platforms and automatically sync case materials into the platform. This integration eliminates the need for manual uploads and ensures Eve's AI always has access to the latest documents, enabling accurate and timely outputs for legal workflows.
How It Works
Eve integrates with supported DMS platforms through secure authorization and read-only access. Once connected, Eve syncs selected folders and files from your DMS on a nightly basis, making documents available for AI-driven workflows without altering the original files. Manual syncs can also be initiated at any time from within a matter.
The integration operates as a one-way sync: Eve reads and ingests documents from your DMS but never writes back or modifies files. Your DMS remains the authoritative source for all documents, and Eve preserves original file names and folder structures when displaying documents in the platform.
Supported DMS Providers
Eve supports the following standard document management systems:
OneDrive
Google Drive
Dropbox
SharePoint
NetDocs
Clio Documents
Growpath
CasePacer
SmartAdvocate
Litify Docrio
For systems not listed, custom OpenAPI-enabled integrations may be possible depending on your platform's capabilities. Integration requests can be logged with your Customer Success Manager for future consideration.
Supported File Types and Limits
Eve supports the following file types with corresponding size limits:
PDFs: Up to 500MB or 10,000 pages
Microsoft Word documents (DOCX, DOC): Up to 500MB or 2,000 pages
Text files (TXT, VTT): Up to 3MB
Images (JPEG, PNG): Up to 10MB
Emails (EML, MSG): Up to 150MB
Audio files (WAV, MP3, OGG): Up to 500MB
Each matter can contain up to 20,000 files. Password-protected documents are not supported and cannot be ingested into Eve.
Security Measures
All document transfers are encrypted in transit and at rest. Eve uses strict access controls and complies with relevant data privacy standards including HIPAA and SOC 2. The read-only integration ensures that your DMS remains unchanged and no modifications are made to stored files.
Key Terms
Read-only access: Eve can view and copy documents from your DMS but cannot modify, rename, or delete files in the original system.
Nightly sync: Automatic document synchronization that occurs once per day to keep Eve updated with the latest files from selected DMS folders.
Sync Failed status: A marker applied to documents in Eve when the original folder has been deleted or moved in the DMS, indicating that future syncs cannot occur until a new folder is selected.
Custom OpenAPI integration: A method for connecting unsupported DMS platforms to Eve through API-based communication, allowing matter creation and document uploads directly from the external system.
