Global Notifications in Eve

Last updated: March 9, 2026

Overview

Global Notifications is a centralized system that shows you real-time status updates for long-running tasks across all your matters in Eve. It tells you which tasks are actively running, which have completed, and which need your attention—all in one central hub. Before Global Notifications, users had no visibility into task status and had to manually check back repeatedly or rely on scattered notifications, which created delays, missed failures, and wasted time hunting for completed work.

How It Works

Global Notifications operates through two complementary notification methods that work together to keep you informed:

Notification Panel

The notification panel is your central activity log, accessible from the bell icon in the Eve header. It displays all notifications across every matter you're working on, whether you're viewing the all matters page or working inside a specific matter. The red badge on the bell icon shows how many unread notifications you have. Inside the panel, notifications are organized by time (Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Older) and can be filtered to show only unread or read items. Each notification displays the task name, matter name, completion or failure time, and current status.

Toast Notifications

Toast notifications are brief pop-ups that appear below the notification bell when a task completes or fails. They display the same information as the notification panel item and remain visible for 6 seconds before auto-dismissing. You can click "View" to navigate directly to the task, or let the toast dismiss automatically—either way, an unread notification is added to your notification panel so you never lose track of what happened. Toast notifications can appear anywhere in Eve and stack on top of each other when multiple tasks finish at the same time.

Key Terms

  • Notification Panel: The central activity log accessed via the bell icon that shows all task notifications across your matters, organized by time and filterable by read/unread status.

  • Toast Notification: A brief pop-up that appears for 6 seconds when a task completes or fails, allowing you to view the task immediately or dismiss it while keeping the notification in your panel.

  • Unread Notification: A notification you haven't viewed yet, shown with bolder text and a blue dot next to the completion time.

  • Read Notification: A notification you've already viewed, shown with subtle gray text and no blue dot.

  • Task Status: The current state of a long-running task, displayed with specific icons: green checkmark for completed, red alert icon for failed, loading spinner for in progress.

  • Completed Task: A task that finished successfully, marked with a green checkmark icon in both toast and panel notifications.

  • Failed Task: A task that encountered an error and couldn't complete, marked with a red alert icon and includes a brief message explaining why it failed.

  • In Progress Task: A task that is currently running, shown with a loading spinner icon and grayed out in the notification panel because there's nothing to view until it finishes or fails.
