Document Management System (DMS) Integration

Last updated: September 29, 2026

Overview

A document management system integration connects external document storage to Eve, so case materials sync in instead of being uploaded by hand.

Connections are set up on the Integrations page. Once one is live, selected folders sync nightly, and the original files are never changed.

Supported Systems

  • OneDrive

  • Google Drive

  • Dropbox

  • SharePoint

  • NetDocs

  • Clio Documents

  • Growpath

  • CasePacer

  • SmartAdvocate

  • Litify Docrio

For a system not on this list, a custom integration built on Eve's public APIs may be possible depending on what that platform supports. Requests can be logged with a Customer Success Manager.

How the Sync Behaves

The connection is read-only and one way. Eve reads and copies documents from the connected system and never writes back, renames, or deletes anything in it. Original file names and folder structures are preserved in how documents appear in Eve.

Selected folders sync nightly. A manual sync can be run from inside a matter at any point, and the difference between the two is covered in 📄 How Integration Syncing Works in Eve.

All transfers are encrypted in transit and at rest, under access controls meeting HIPAA and SOC 2.

File Types and Limits

The full table of accepted types and their caps lives in 📄 Supported File Types and Size Limits in Eve, which is the single reference for it. Two points specific to syncing:

  • Each matter holds up to 20,000 files, whether they arrived by sync or by upload.

  • Password-protected documents cannot be ingested. They sync across as unreadable rather than failing quietly, so they are worth unlocking at the source.

What a DMS Integration Does Not Do

  • It never changes the original. No writes, no renames, no deletions in the connected system.

  • A moved or deleted source folder breaks the sync. Documents from it are marked sync failed, and syncing does not resume until a new folder is selected.

  • It does not replace a case management integration. One CMS and one DMS can run together, and they carry different things.

Key Terms

  • Read-only access: Eve can view and copy documents from the connected system but cannot modify, rename, or delete them there.

  • Nightly sync: The daily automatic run that brings new and changed files from the selected folders.

  • Sync failed: The status applied when the source folder has been moved or deleted, meaning no further syncing until a new folder is chosen.

  • Custom integration: A connection to an unsupported platform built on Eve's public APIs.
