Drafting in Chat
Last updated: November 4, 2026
Overview
Drafting in chat lets you create, revise, and finish formal documents without leaving Eve. Ask Eve in matter chat to draft a document. Eve writes it from the case file, applies your firm's template and letterhead from Central Library, and opens a formatted Word document preview. The preview matches the file you export.
What Eve Creates in Chat
Eve creates a Word document by default for complaints, motions, demand letters, discovery responses, and formal letters, for example letters of representation and records requests. Emails and short inserts stay in chat, where they are easy to copy.
For anything else, ask: "Put this in a Word document."
Eve also creates PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets! Just specify the format you need. For more information on images and powerpoints, check out 📄 Demonstratives and Presentations
How a Draft Comes Together
Ask. Describe the document in plain language. Eve reads the case file and writes the draft.
Preview. The draft opens as a Word document preview inside Eve, with the chat beside it.
Revise. Highlight text and click Ask Eve, keep asking in chat, or click Edit and type the change.
Review. Eve shows each edit as a tracked change. Accept all of them, review them one at a time, or reject them.
Go back if needed. Every version is saved in Version history.
Download. The downloaded file matches the preview.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to stop using my drafting agents?
No! Your drafting agents keep working as they do today. When you are ready, update each one to the improved drafting.
Will Eve use my firm's letterhead?
Yes. Eve uses the templates and letterhead in Central Library. To use a specific one, select it in Library before you ask for the draft. The file must be in Central Library.
Why did Eve answer in chat instead of creating a Word document?
Eve makes a Word document by default for complaints, motions, demand letters, discovery responses, and formal letters. Emails and short inserts stay in chat. For anything else, ask: "Put this in a Word document."
Where do the facts in the draft come from?
From the files in the matter, plus any Central Library files you select. Turn on Sources in the document header to see the files Eve used. Always check key facts before a document leaves your firm.
What happens to my existing working documents?
Open the document and ask Eve in chat to change it. The first time Eve edits it, Eve turns it into a formatted Word document. Its exhibits stay with it.
