Agents in Eve
Last updated: September 29, 2026
Overview
An agent is a saved set of instructions that tells Eve what to do and, optionally, when to do it. Agents live in the Agents section and run against the documents in a matter.
Every workspace arrives with example agents already built. Firms add their own, keep them private, or share them so a workflow one person worked out becomes the way the whole firm does that task.
How It Works
Two things define any agent: what it produces, and what starts it.
What an agent produces
Chat agents return a conversational response: analysis, summaries, evaluations, recommendations. See 📄 Chat Agents.
Drafting agents return a formatted document. They learn a firm's structure and language from 2 to 5 example documents. Demand letters, complaints, and mediation statements are common uses.
Discovery response agents are drafting agents tuned for written discovery: interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
Communication agents place outbound voice calls to clients and insurers. The agent builds a call plan from matter context for review and approval, places the call, navigates menus or voicemail, and returns a transcript and summary. Treatment check-ins, records follow-ups, and status updates are common uses.
What starts an agent
Manually. A person opens a matter and runs it. This is always available.
On a trigger. The agent runs on a schedule or in response to matter activity, such as a new document upload, with no one present. An agent configured this way is an auto agent. See 📄 Auto Agents and Triggers.
The two are not exclusive. Setting a trigger does not remove the option to run the same agent by hand.
Context Is What Decides Quality
Every agent reads the matter context selected for the run. Anything left unchecked may as well not exist for the duration of that task, and anything never uploaded cannot be read or cited at all. Firm reference material such as a style guide or standing instructions can be added from the Central Library alongside matter context.
An agent's output is a first draft. It arrives with citations back to the source documents, and the claims that matter should be checked against them before anything leaves the firm.
How Agents Relate to the Auditor
The Auditor surfaces what needs attention across cases: risks, deadlines, opportunities. Agents do the work. The Auditor identifies, the agent acts. A case approaching policy limits surfaced by the Auditor can trigger a demand drafting agent to start the letter. For more information on Auditor, see 📄 Auditor.
