Inline Sources

Overview

Inline Sources is Eve's built-in verification feature that lets you confirm where information in Eve's answers comes from by clicking numbered source bubbles that link directly to relevant sections in your case documents. This feature supports Eve's "Trust but Verify" approach — while Eve works to minimize inaccuracies, you should always verify important facts by checking the sources.

How It Works

When Eve generates a response in Chat or creates a draft, numbered source bubbles appear throughout the text. Each bubble corresponds to a specific fact or statement in Eve's answer. Clicking a bubble displays the most relevant document sections that support that information, ranked by semantic similarity.

Source ranking uses semantic similarity scoring to identify which document sections most closely relate to each part of Eve's answer. Sources are ordered by relevance score, with the most relevant passages shown first. This ranking is not exhaustive — Inline Sources shows you the most relevant passages but may not show every single mention of a topic across all documents.

Inline Sources works in two contexts within Eve:

In Chat (Q&A): Numbered bubbles like [1], [2], [3] appear embedded in Eve's response text. Clicking a bubble opens a view of the most relevant document sections, allowing you to review quoted passages and confirm accuracy.

In Drafting: When reviewing demand letters, complaints, or discovery responses, you can highlight any sentence or section and select "Show Sources" to view the source documents and passages Eve relied on. Clicking any source opens the full document with the relevant section highlighted.

Key Terms

  • Source bubble: A numbered indicator like [1] or [2] that appears in Eve's responses, linking a specific statement to supporting documents.

  • Semantic similarity: The ranking method Eve uses to identify which document sections most closely relate to each part of an answer, ordering sources by relevance score.

  • Supported documents: Documents uploaded to Eve that enable section-level sourcing. Text content created directly in Eve (like notes you type) does not currently support Inline Sources.

  • Load time: The delay that may occur when retrieving sources, depending on document size and volume in your case.
