How to Share a Matter with Team Members in Eve

Last updated: August 10, 2026

Overview

This article walks you through sharing a Matter in Eve with your team members so you can collaborate on case tasks. You'll learn how to invite users, configure global sharing settings for your Matter, and manage permission levels. Team members with access can open new Sessions, perform work, and view what others have done—nobody can overwrite work done by another person.

Prerequisites

  • You must have an open Matter in Eve (either newly created or existing in your Matter Home)

  • You must have Owner permissions on the Matter to manage sharing settings

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open Your Matter — Navigate to your Matter Home and open the Matter you want to share. You can share a new Matter or one that already exists. The Share button will be visible in both the Matter overview page and inside individual Sessions.

  2. Click the Share Button — In the upper right of your screen, click the "Share" button. A pop-up window will appear where you can control who has access to the Matter.

  3. Invite Team Members by Email — Enter the email address of the team member you want to invite and click "Invite". Team members in your organization who already have access to Eve will appear in the dropdown menu. You can also invite users who don't have Eve access yet—they'll receive an invitation to join your Matter and sign up for Eve. Note that you cannot share an individual Session; sharing always applies to the entire Matter.

  4. Configure Global Sharing Settings (Optional) — Toggle the global settings for your Matter to control default visibility. You can choose to require explicit invitations for other users in your organization to see the Matter, or allow all users in your organization to access the Matter without an invitation. If you'd like all of your Matters to be shared with your broader organization by default, contact your support team. Once you've shared a Matter, you'll see a locked or unlocked icon near your user icon and the number of other users invited to the Matter.

  5. Transfer Matter Ownership (Optional) — If another attorney will take over the Matter and you no longer want it to appear in your My Matters list, click the "Share" button, find that user, and use the dropdown next to their name to change their permission to "Owner." Once ownership has been updated, the Matter will no longer appear in your My Matters view.

  6. Remove Access (If Needed) — To remove a team member's access to the Matter at any time, click the "Share" button, find the user in the list, and click "Remove". This immediately revokes their access to the Matter and all Sessions within it.

You should now see your invited team members listed in the sharing settings, and they will be able to access the Matter and collaborate on case tasks according to their permission level.
