How to Share a Matter with Team Members in Eve

Overview

Sharing is set at the matter level. Everyone with access to a matter can open sessions in it, run agents, draft, and see what others have done. Nobody can overwrite another person's work.

Individual sessions cannot be shared on their own. Access is always to the whole matter.

Before You Start

  • The matter open in Eve.

  • Owner permission on the matter, which is what sharing settings require.

Share with Specific People

  1. Open the matter. The Share button appears in the upper right, both on the matter overview and inside a session.

  2. Click Share. A dialog opens showing who currently has access.

  3. Enter an email address and click Invite. People at your firm who already use Eve appear in the dropdown as you type. You can also invite someone without an Eve account yet: they receive an invitation to the matter and to sign up.

Once a matter is shared, a lock icon and a count of invited users appear next to your user icon.

Set Firm-Wide Access

In the same dialog, the global setting controls the default for this matter. Either everyone at your firm can open it without an invitation, or access requires an explicit invitation.

To make every new matter firm-visible by default, contact your support team. That is an account-level setting rather than a per-matter one.

Transfer Ownership

When another attorney takes the matter over and you no longer want it in My Matters:

  1. Click Share.

  2. Find the user in the list.

  3. Change their permission to Owner using the dropdown next to their name.

Once ownership moves, the matter leaves your My Matters view.

Remove Access

  1. Click Share.

  2. Find the user.

  3. Click Remove. Access to the matter and every session in it is revoked immediately.

What Sharing Does Not Do

  • It does not give access to a single session. Sharing is always the whole matter.

  • It does not add someone to your firm's Eve account. Adding users is a separate firm admin task. See 📄 How to Invite New Users to Eve.

  • It does not change firm-level roles and permissions, which are set separately.
