How to Use the Notification Panel in Eve
Last updated: June 26, 2026
Overview
This article shows you how to access and use the notification panel to track the status of long-running tasks across all your matters. The notification panel gives you a central view of tasks that are in progress, completed, or failed, so you can quickly see what needs your attention and navigate directly to completed work. This guide walks you through accessing the panel, understanding notification states, filtering by read/unread status, and viewing task details.
Prerequisites
You must be logged into Eve
You must have at least one matter with a long-running task (such as a medical overview or document drafting session)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Locate the Notification Bell — The notification bell appears in the top right of the header on all pages in Eve. The red badge on the bell shows how many unread notifications you have. As you view each notification, this number decreases.

Open the Notification Panel — Click the notification bell to open the notification panel. The panel overlays the UI and can be accessed from anywhere in Eve—whether you're on the all matters page or working within a specific matter. When opened, you'll see a list of all your notifications organized by date categories: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, and Older.

Toggle Between Unread and Read Notifications — At the top of the notification panel, use the toggle to switch between viewing Unread notifications and Read notifications. This allows you to focus on new activity or review your notification history.

Understand Notification States — Each notification displays the task name, matter name, completion or failure time, and status icon. Notifications have two visual states:
- Unread — Displays bolder text with a blue dot next to the completion time
- Read — Displays subtle gray text with no blue dot next to the completion time

Identify Task Status by Icon — Notifications are categorized by three status types, each with a specific icon:
- Completed — Shows a green checkmark, indicating the task finished successfully

- Failed — Shows a red alert icon and includes a brief message explaining why the task failed

- In progress — Shows a loading spinner. The notification is grayed out because there's nothing to view until the task finishes or fails.

View a Notification and Navigate to the Task — Hover over any notification to reveal a "View" button. When you click "View," the notification is marked as read (the blue dot is removed) and you are taken directly to the completed or failed task within the relevant matter. For example, clicking a failed medical overview takes you to the failure details so you can see what went wrong.
