Supported File Types and Size Limits in Eve

Overview

Eve accepts a variety of document types for case analysis, including PDFs, Word documents, text files, images, audio files, video files, and email files, each with specific size and page limitations. Understanding these limitations helps you prepare documents correctly before uploading and ensures smooth integration with your matter workflow.

How It Works

Eve processes different file types in different ways, extracting text and context to support case analysis. Each file type has technical limitations based on processing requirements and storage capacity.

Supported File Types

Document Files:

  • PDFs: Standard document format, supports up to 10,000 pages per file

  • Word documents (.doc, .docx): Supports up to 2,000 pages per file

  • Text files: Plain text documents with no page limitations

  • Excel/CSV files: Spreadsheets and tables. Keep in mind, Eve can't read any formulas or macros you have in these.

Visual and Media Files:

  • VTT (video text tracks): Transcript files for video content

  • Images (JPEG, PNG): Text-based images that Eve can read using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to extract text

  • PowerPoint:​ 300 MB, up to 2000 slides/pages

  • Audio files (WAV, MP3): Can be transcribed into text for analysis

  • Video files (MP4, MOV): Eve transcribes the audio track and indexes the transcript, the same way audio files are handled. The extracted audio can be played back alongside the transcript. Eve does not analyze the visual content of the video (no scene, object, face, or on-screen text recognition). A video with no audio track, or whose audio contains no transcribable speech, is marked as unsupported.

Email Files:

  • .eml and .msg files: Email messages with attachments and metadata preserved

Unsupported File Types

The following file types cannot be uploaded directly to Eve:

  • Password Protected Files: Eve isn't able to enter passwords or view password protected documents.

  • Native Google Docs: Must be downloaded as .doc or .docx using File > Download in Google Docs before uploading

Size Limitations

Per-File Limits:

  • PDFs: Up to 10,000 pages per file (files over 2,000 pages are automatically split into 1,000-page chunks during processing)

  • Word documents: Up to 2,000 pages per file

  • Individual file size: Up to 2.5GB for PDFs

  • Video files: Up to 2.5GB

Batch Upload Limits:

  • Up to 1,000 files can be uploaded at one time

  • Total batch size cannot exceed 5GB

Per-Matter Limits:

  • Maximum of 20,000 files per matter

Folder Structure Preservation

When you upload folders to Eve, the system automatically preserves your folder and subfolder structure, mirroring your local drive or document management system organization. This helps maintain the organizational context of your documents.

Zip files: You must fully extract (unzip) zip files into a regular folder before uploading to Eve. Eve does not automatically unzip compressed files.

Dropbox uploads: If uploading from Dropbox, ensure files are fully downloaded to your local computer first. Simply dragging Dropbox folders may only upload file links rather than the actual files.
