Quote Verification

Overview
Quote verification is an automatic check Eve runs on quoted text. Before a response reaches you, every quote it contains is compared against the documents in matter context and marked with the result of that check.
The check answers one question: does this passage actually appear in the source, word for word. It runs on every response containing a quote. There is no setting to turn on and no step to take.
How It Works
Once Eve generates a response, the response is scanned for quoted passages. Each passage is matched against the documents in context, marked with its verification state, and linked to its source. Clicking a marked quote opens the source document at that passage.
Quotes shorter than 20 characters are not checked. Short phrases appear in too many places across a document set to match reliably, so a short quote is returned unmarked rather than marked wrongly.
A response will not contain quotes unless the work calls for them or the prompt asks for them. To get them, ask directly. For example: "Before providing your answer, outline the key quotes from the documents that support it."
Verification States
State | What it means | What to do |

Green | The quote was found in the source documents as an exact match. | Standard review. Open the source when the exact wording will appear in a filing. |
Yellow | The quote was found only as a partial or approximate match. | Open the source and read the passage before using it. Treat the wording as unconfirmed. |
Yellow is not a failure state. It is common with scanned documents, OCR text, and records whose formatting has shifted. It means the wording needs reading, not that Eve invented something.
What Quote Verification Does Not Cover
It confirms quoted text, not conclusions. A passage can be quoted correctly and still be summarized, characterized, or applied in a way a person would argue with.
It runs against what is in context. A document unchecked in matter context, or never added to the matter, cannot be quoted or verified against.
It does not check arithmetic. Totals, date spans, and running balances are worth checking directly.
It does not flag an omission. Every quote in a response can verify green while a document nobody uploaded goes unmentioned.
