Understanding Clio Data in Eve

Last updated: March 10, 2026

Overview

When you connect Clio to Eve, your Clio matters appear in Eve with four read-only sections that display case information pulled directly from Clio. These sections allow Eve to access your case data while keeping Clio as the source of truth for all matter information.

How It Works

Identifying Clio-Connected Matters

Matters imported from Clio display a Clio connection icon in Eve. This icon distinguishes them from matters created directly in Eve, which do not show this icon.

Four Read-Only Sections

When a matter is pulled from Clio, Eve creates four sections that display information from your Clio account:

Details

Matter fields containing your case details appear in this section. You cannot add new fields or edit existing fields in Eve — all changes must be made in Clio.

Contacts

Main and relevant contacts associated with the case appear below Details. You cannot add new contacts or edit existing contacts in Eve — all changes must be made in Clio.

Notes

All notes made in Clio appear in this section, sorted by most recent note first. You can search your notes to narrow down what you're looking for. You cannot add new notes or edit existing notes in Eve — all changes must be made in Clio.

Clio File Management

Your file management section is divided into two areas: files imported from Clio and files created or uploaded directly in Eve.

You can select and specify which files Eve should use before completing a task — across both Clio and Eve files.

You cannot add new files to the Clio Files section — this must be done in Clio. However, you can upload and draft files normally in Eve. Those files are stored in the Eve Files section and will not sync back to Clio.

Re-Syncing a Matter

Data from Clio is automatically synced to Eve on a nightly basis. If you need a more timely update during the day, you can use the re-sync button in the Matter header to pull updated data from Clio into your Eve Matter.

For best results, sync your files before beginning tasks so that you are working with the most up to date information from Clio.

Key Terms

  • Clio Files: Files stored in Clio and synced to Eve as read-only. Cannot be edited or added to from Eve.

  • Eve Files: Files uploaded or created directly in Eve. Stored separately and do not sync back to Clio.

  • Re-sync: Manual action that pulls the latest data from Clio into Eve during the day, outside of the automatic nightly sync schedule.
