Matters

Overview

A Matter is a single case in Eve where you and your team work on all parts of a client's casework. Matters serve as the central workspace for case-related work, containing all files, Sessions, and AI-generated work product for that specific client's case. Typically, a Matter encompasses an individual client's case from intake through resolution.

For the purposes of your Eve subscription, a Matter is defined as "a discrete professional engagement arising from a transaction or occurrence for which you have been engaged to provide legal or professional services on behalf of a client or group of clients, including but not limited to a case, action, lawsuit, or other dispute resolution process, or prelitigation representation in anticipation thereof. Prelitigation representation and any subsequent litigation, arbitration, administrative process, or similar dispute resolution process that arises from the same transaction or occurrence will be considered the same Matter; however, different transactions or occurrences, even with the same client or group of clients, will be billed as separate Matters.  Matters are billed when you enter the Matter into the Service and commence at least one Session, conversation, or other action within the Matter.  Matters are not reusable, and deleted Matters are still considered used." 

Matters created during your pilot phase of Eve are not billed against your Matters.

We further separate Matters into New Matters, Imported Matters, and Continuing Matters.

“New Matter” means a Matter for which you were first engaged to represent the client or clients on or after the Effective Date or your date of initial access to the Service, whichever is later, and which is entered into the Service for the first time. New Matters, in other words, are Matters you sign up to represent after your Eve subscription starts.

“Imported Matter” means a Matter for which you were engaged to represent the client or clients prior to the Effective Date or the Firm’s date of initial access to the Service, whichever is later. Imported Matters, in other words, are Matters you began representation on before the start of your Eve subscription. These are the existing matters you have before buying Eve. In some Eve Order Forms, these Matters may also be referred to as "Existing Matters."

“Continuing Matter” means a Matter that has been previously entered into the Eve Service, remains open and active, and has had at least one session, conversation, or other action commenced within the Matter.  In other words, once you bring a New Matter or Imported Matter into the Eve Services and you use Eve to work on the Matter, it is a Continuing Matter while it remains active.

How It Works

When you create a Matter in Eve, you establish a dedicated workspace for that case. Within this workspace, you can upload and organize case files, use Eve's AI skills to analyze documents, ask questions about the case, and draft documents using blueprints.

Matters are designed to keep all work for a single case contained and organized in one place. You and your team members can access the same Matter to collaborate on casework, view shared documents, and see AI-generated work product.

Each Matter can contain multiple Sessions, which are discrete workspaces for specific tasks within the case. For example, you might create one Session for generating a case overview and another Session for drafting a demand letter. This structure helps Eve stay focused on the specific task at hand and deliver higher-quality results.
