How to Propound Discovery in Eve

This article walks you through using Eve to draft discovery requests including interrogatories, document requests, and requests for admissions. You'll upload relevant case documents, run the Propound Discovery chat agent, review the generated requests, and save them as working drafts. This guide is designed for attorneys preparing discovery in active matters.

Prerequisites

  • An active matter in Eve

  • Key case documents ready to upload (correspondence, briefs, client-provided materials, evidence)

  • Access to the Agents section of your matter

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Upload Relevant Documents — Navigate to your matter and upload essential documents that will inform your discovery requests. These may include previous correspondence, letters, briefs, client-provided background information or supporting documents, and key pieces of evidence. The more comprehensive your case file, the more context Eve will have to draft effective interrogatories, document requests, and requests for admissions.

  2. Run the Propound Discovery chat agent — Navigate to the Agents section of your matter and locate the "Propound Discovery" chat agent. Before activating it, verify which files need to be included in the context for this action. As a best practice, exclude any working drafts from the context so Eve doesn't reference draft content as fact. When you activate the chat agent, Eve will automatically generate discovery requests for you, which may include Specialized Interrogatories, Requests for Production of Documents, Requests for Admissions, and a Witness List. When complete, you'll see these documents displayed in the chat.

  3. Review and Refine Discovery Requests — Review the generated discovery requests in the chat. You can follow up with additional questions or adjustments in the same session by continuing the conversation with Eve. Be specific about which section you have questions on or want to build upon. For example, you might say: "Add three more interrogatories to the Specialized Interrogatory list which could prove a fact essential to establishing an element of our claim." Use specific case language in your messages and outline the claims you are currently pursuing in Eve's instructions to provide Eve with your overall goals and inform her of exactly the type of requests you're looking to craft.

  4. Save Discovery Requests as Working Drafts — When you're satisfied with a discovery request, save it as a working draft to your matter. Click the "Export" option in the bottom of the message Eve provides to save it as a working draft to your matter. With the document saved, you can continue editing in real time with Eve by asking questions, requesting re-drafts, or asking Eve to better explain portions of your requests.

Pro Tip: Chat agents can be edited by Firm Admins in the Agent Library. You can customize the number and types of requests generated, as well as modify the instructions to better fit your firm's specific needs and jurisdictional requirements.
