How to Propound Discovery in Eve

Overview

Propound Discovery is a chat agent in your firm's Agent Library that drafts discovery requests from the documents in a matter. One run can produce special interrogatories, requests for production of documents, requests for admission, and a witness list. They stay in the chat until you save them to the matter.

Before You Start

  • Ensure your firm has a Propound Discovery agent. See 📄 Agent Library in Evefor more information.​

  • The matter open in Eve, with the documents the requests should draw on already uploaded. Correspondence, pleadings, client-provided background, and evidence all count.

  • A clear view of the claims you are pursuing. The agent writes to the theory you give it.

Run the Agent

  1. Open the matter and go to the Agents tab.

  2. Select the Propound Discovery agent.

  3. Check the context files before running. Clear any working drafts from the selection so the agent does not treat draft language as established fact.

  4. Run the agent. The requests appear in the chat when the run finishes.

Refine the Requests

Stay in the same chat. Name the section you want changed and say what should change about it:

Add three more interrogatories to the special interrogatory list that go to notice.

Two things make follow-ups land:

  • Use the language of the case. Party names, dates, and the specific conduct at issue give Eve something to anchor on.

  • State the claims you are pursuing. The requests are shaped by what you are trying to prove, so saying so in the chat changes what comes back.

Save your Requests to the Matter

Select Export at the bottom of the message holding the request you want to keep. It is saved to the matter as a working draft, where you can keep editing it with Eve or on your own.

Use the Requests as Context to Draft Discovery Requests.

Once you've saved this as a working draft to the matter, you can use those questions as context to draft your requests.

  1. Create a drafting agent that uses your discovery request format as samples. For more information, see 📄 How to Create and Use Drafting Agents in Eve.

  2. When selecting matter context, include the saved discovery requests you saved to the matter.

  3. In the Instructions, tell Eve to use the discovery questions we drafted as the requests. Being precise about the title of the document can help here.

  4. Once it's drafted, review and modify as needed.
