Automatic First-Time Medical Overview Runs
Last updated: March 10, 2026
Overview
Automatic first-time Medical Overview runs are background processes Eve initiates when it detects a personal injury matter contains medical documents and no Medical Overview has been run yet. This feature ensures teams receive structured medical insights as soon as records are uploaded, without requiring manual intervention. The first run extracts key medical information—such as providers, treatments, dates of care, and diagnoses—and structures it to power medical insights and downstream workflows.
Automatic runs only occur when specific conditions are met: the matter must contain valid medical records or medical bills, and no Medical Overview can already exist for that matter. Non-personal-injury matters are not eligible for automatic runs. Users can still run Medical Overviews manually at any time, even after an automatic run has completed. Automatic runs do not affect performance elsewhere in Eve—they use the same infrastructure as manual runs and process in the background while other workflows continue.
How It Works
After documents are uploaded and classification is complete, Eve evaluates whether the matter is eligible for an automatic Medical Overview run. The system checks two conditions:
The matter contains valid medical records or medical bills
No Medical Overview has been run for this matter previously
If both conditions are met, Eve automatically initiates the Medical Overview run in the background. The process extracts and structures medical information from the uploaded documents, identifying providers, treatments, dates of care, diagnoses, and related context.
While the automatic run processes, users can continue working in Eve without interruption. A progress indicator displays the status of the run in the interface. Processing time depends on document volume and complexity but is comparable to a standard manual Medical Overview run.
If the conditions are not met—for example, if the matter does not contain medical documents or if a Medical Overview already exists—Eve will not start an automatic run. In these cases, users can still initiate a Medical Overview manually if needed.
Key Terms
Medical Overview: A deep extraction workflow in Eve that reads medical documents and identifies key details such as providers, treatments, dates of care, and diagnoses to power medical insights and case workflows
Automatic run: A background process Eve initiates without user action when specific conditions are met, used to generate the first Medical Overview for eligible personal injury matters
Manual run: A user-initiated Medical Overview process that can be started at any time, regardless of whether an automatic run has occurred
