How to Organize Sessions and Manage Conversation History in Eve

Last updated: March 10, 2026

Overview

This article shows you how to structure your work in Eve by organizing sessions and managing conversation history for better AI responses. Eve performs best when you break large projects into focused tasks, keep each session dedicated to a single topic, and periodically clear conversation history to maintain context quality. This guide is for anyone working on cases with multiple tasks or lengthy projects in Eve.

Prerequisites

  • Access to a Matter in Eve

  • Familiarity with starting a conversation with Eve

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Break Large Projects Into Small Tasks — Instead of asking Eve to complete multiple tasks in one prompt (e.g., summarize documents, identify claims, add rebuttals, and list evidence needs), ask for each task individually as its own message. Eve is optimized to handle many small, focused requests rather than one large ask. After each response, review the output before moving to the next task. You should see more accurate and detailed responses when you separate tasks.

  2. Open a New Session for Each Case Task — When working on long cases with multiple distinct tasks, open a separate session for each unique task rather than reusing the same conversation thread. You can start a new session by clicking "Talk to Eve" from the main page of your matter or by using one of the Skills. Each session should focus on one topic or task (e.g., one session for intake summary, another for discovery review). This keeps Eve focused on the current work and maximizes response quality.

  3. Clear Conversation History When Needed — When working through a lengthy project with many back-and-forth messages, periodically clear the conversation history to help Eve focus on the immediate task. Click the X button at the top of your chat with Eve to clear history. This is especially useful after completing a subtask or when switching focus within the same session. After clearing, Eve will no longer reference earlier messages in that conversation thread.

  4. Review Past Sessions — Access previous work by clicking the "Past sessions" button in your Matter. Use the search bar to find specific sessions quickly, or use the drop-down menu to filter sessions by Owner (e.g., by teammate or by your own previous work). This allows you to review completed tasks, pick up where you or a colleague left off, or reference earlier findings without starting over.

  5. Use the Notepad Feature to Maintain Context — Use the Text Context feature (Notepad) to jot down key takeaways, case notes, or conversation overviews as you work. This helps provide ongoing context for Eve across messages. After noting important points, you can clear the conversation history (Step 3) while keeping your notes intact in the Notepad. This combination keeps conversations focused while preserving critical context.
