Skills in Eve: Instructions, Playbooks, Blueprints, and Eve Skills

Last updated: March 10, 2026

Overview

Skills are reusable templates in Eve that teach the platform to perform tasks based on your firm's specific processes and preferences. They allow you and your team to streamline routine legal work by creating custom workflows, document drafts, and contextual guidance that Eve can apply consistently across matters. Eve offers three types of custom skills you can create (Instructions, Playbooks, Blueprints) plus built-in Eve Skills engineered specifically for legal work.

How It Works

Eve's skill system allows you to capture your firm's knowledge and workflows in four distinct skill types, each designed for a different use case:

Instructions provide background context and case-specific details that guide how Eve responds across all interactions in a matter. Think of Instructions as training material that tells Eve about your firm, your preferences, and the specifics of a case. Instructions apply globally to all of Eve's responses within a matter, influencing tone, formatting, and contextual understanding.

Playbooks are saved sequences of prompts that automate multi-step analyses and workflows. Any time you find yourself asking Eve the same structured questions repeatedly, you can save those prompts as a Playbook for one-click reuse. Playbooks execute in sequence, with each step building on the previous one, and can reference specific source documents within a matter.

Blueprints allow you to draft legal documents that match your firm's writing style and formatting standards. You upload 2-5 examples of your best work, and Eve analyzes their tone, structure, and presentation to create consistent drafts. Blueprints are designed for documents you draft repeatedly, not one-off correspondence.

Eve Skills are pre-engineered skills built specifically for legal use cases. These include Medical Overview, Legal Research, Fact Search, and Table of Contents. Eve Skills cannot be edited or customized but are optimized for their specific tasks and available to all users.

All custom skills you create are stored in your Skills Library, where you can view, edit, share with your team, organize by category, and delete skills you no longer need. You can also access your skills directly from any matter by browsing the Skills section in the center of your matter page.
