This article resolves concerns about edits disappearing or being overwritten when the Medical Overview is re-run or when new medical documents are uploaded. This typically occurs when new documents are added to a matter or when the overview is manually re-extracted, and it affects attorneys and paralegals who have made manual corrections or adjustments to the Economic Damages Ledger.

Before You Start — Diagnosis

Confirm the following before attempting any fixes:

  • You have previously edited values in the Economic Damages Ledger (excluded items, added payments, adjusted charges, or modified descriptions)

  • New medical documents were recently uploaded to the matter

  • You triggered a manual re-run of the Medical Overview

  • You received an alert that new medical documents were detected

  • The ledger totals or values appear different from your last saved state

Fixes

Possible Cause: You Re-Ran the Overview and Expected Edits to Be Lost

Cause: You may believe that re-running the Medical Overview will overwrite your manual edits, but Eve is designed to preserve edits even when re-extraction occurs. Edits remain intact unless the underlying source document data changes.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to the Medical Overview Economic Damages Ledger for the matter

  2. Check the References column for change log icons on previously edited rows

  3. Hover over any edited values (marked with an asterisk) to confirm your prior changes are still present

  4. If you need to re-run the overview, proceed with confidence — your edits will persist

  5. Review the ledger after re-run to confirm all manual adjustments remain intact

Expected Outcome: All previously edited values, exclusions, and custom line items remain visible and active in the ledger after the re-run completes. Totals reflect your manual adjustments, not the raw extracted data.

Possible Cause: New Medical Documents Were Uploaded and You Were Not Alerted

Cause: When new medical records are uploaded to a matter, Eve detects the change and displays an alert notifying you that new documents are available. If you do not see this alert, you may be unsure whether new data has been added or whether your edits are at risk.

Steps:

  1. Check the top of the Medical Overview screen for a notification banner indicating new medical documents were detected

  2. If you see the alert, review the notification details to understand which documents were added

  3. Choose whether to re-run the overview to include the new documents

  4. If you choose to re-run, confirm that your existing edits remain intact by checking the References column and asterisk indicators

  5. If no alert appears, no new documents have been added, and your edits are safe

Expected Outcome: You see a clear notification when new documents are available, and you can re-run the overview while keeping your edits intact. The ledger updates to include new data without removing prior manual corrections.

Possible Cause: Underlying Document Data Changed and Edits Were Overwritten

Cause: Edits are preserved unless the specific data in the source medical documents changes. If a document is replaced, corrected, or re-uploaded with different values, Eve may re-extract that data and overwrite manual edits tied to the changed fields.

Steps:

  1. Check the References column change log on rows where edits appear to be missing

  2. Confirm whether the underlying medical document was replaced or updated

  3. Review the audit trail to see if the edit was overwritten due to a document change

  4. If the document was updated, re-apply your manual correction using the Edit function

  5. Hover over the row and select Edit, update the value, and confirm with the checkmark or press Enter

Expected Outcome: You can identify which edits were overwritten due to source document changes, and you can quickly re-apply corrections. Future edits will persist unless the same document is updated again.
