How to Organize Skills with Tags in Eve

Last updated: March 10, 2026

Overview

This article shows you how to add tags to skills, use consistent tagging conventions, and filter skills by tag, type, or sharing settings in Eve. Tags help you categorize skills and quickly find the ones relevant to specific tasks, case stages, or practice areas. This applies to both Blueprints and Playbooks in your Skill Library and when working within matters.

Prerequisites

  • An active Eve Legal account

  • At least one skill (Blueprint or Playbook) already created, or permission to create and edit skills

  • Access to the Skill Library

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Add tags when creating a new skill — When you create a Blueprint or Playbook, you'll see a Tags field in the Skill content screen. Enter relevant tags such as "Discovery," "Pre-litigation," "Intake," or practice area names like "Personal Injury" or "Employment Law." You can add multiple tags to a single skill. Tags will appear as clickable labels on the skill card once saved.

  2. Add tags to existing skills — Navigate to the Skill Library, locate the skill you want to tag, and click the ... menu on the right side of the skill card. Select Edit, then add or modify tags in the Tags field. Click Save to apply your changes. The updated tags will immediately appear on the skill card and become available in filters.

  3. Use consistent tagging conventions across your firm — Coordinate with your team to establish a shared vocabulary for tags. For example, agree on whether to use "Discovery" or "Disc," "Pre-lit" or "Pre-litigation." Consistent tagging makes it easier for everyone to find skills quickly. Firm Administrators can help standardize these conventions across the organization.

  4. Filter skills by tag in the Skill Library — In the Skill Library page, use the filter dropdown at the top of the page to view skills by tag. Select one or more tags to narrow the list to only skills with those tags. The interface provides improved filtering for lengthy tags and better visual organization. You'll see only the skills that match your selected filters.

  5. Filter skills by type or sharing settings — In addition to filtering by tag, you can use the filter dropdown to view skills by type (Blueprint, Playbook, or Eve Skill) or by sharing settings (Only me or Shared). Combine multiple filters to narrow your results further, such as showing only shared Playbooks tagged with "Discovery."

  6. Filter skills within a matter — When working in a matter, navigate to the Skills section. Use the same filter dropdown to view skills by tag, type, or sharing settings. This helps you quickly access the skills most relevant to your current case stage or task without browsing the full library.
