How to Run a Playbook in Eve
Last updated: March 10, 2026
Overview
This article walks you through running a Playbook in Eve to automate multi-step workflows within a matter. You'll learn how to select a Playbook from your skills list, choose the right context documents, execute the workflow, and continue working with the results. This guide is for anyone who needs to run standardized analysis or automated tasks on case documents.
Prerequisites
You must be working inside an active Matter
The Playbook you want to run must already exist in your Skill Library
Relevant documents for the Playbook should be uploaded to the Matter's Files section
Step-by-Step Instructions
Select a Playbook from the Skills List — In your Matter, locate the skills section and choose a pre-existing Playbook from the list. Playbooks are marked with a book + play icon. If you don't see the Playbook you need, select "See All" to expand the full list of available skills. You should see the Playbook name and icon displayed.
Choose Matter Context Documents — Select the specific documents or files from the matter you want Eve to use for analysis. Always confirm the most relevant documents are selected before running — using only relevant documents helps Eve focus her responses without introducing irrelevant facts. You should see your selected documents highlighted or checked in the context selector.
Choose Central Library Context (Optional) — If applicable, select reference documentation from your central library that Eve should take into account when performing this task. This step is optional depending on whether your Playbook requires firm-wide reference materials. Selected library documents will appear in the context panel.
Click Run to Execute the Workflow — Click the Run button to start the Playbook. Eve will automatically run all prompts included within the Playbook in sequence. For multi-step Playbooks, you'll see a star icon between each programmed prompt indicating where Eve will respond. Once the Playbook has finished running completely, you should see Eve's final output displayed in the conversation.
Continue the Conversation After Completion — After the Playbook completes, you can continue the conversation as you would in a standard "Talk to Eve" session. Ask follow-up questions, request clarification, or iterate on the results. You can also re-run the Playbook with different context or ask Eve how to improve the prompt for future use.
