Locked Out of Your Own Firm's Account After Joining Another Firm in Eve

Last updated: June 2, 2026

Overview

You lose access to your own firm's Eve account after accepting a collaboration invitation from another firm. Each Eve account is tied to a single email address in a single firm, so working as co-counsel on another firm's matter is fully supported — but signing into that other firm using the same email you use for your own firm reassigns your account to the other firm and deactivates you in your own. This article explains why that happens and how to regain access to your own firm while keeping access to the other.

Before You Start — Diagnosis

Confirm the following before attempting any fixes:

  • You recently accepted an invitation to another firm's Eve account (for example, as co-counsel on a shared matter).

  • You used the same email address for that invitation as the one tied to your own firm's Eve login.

  • You can no longer reach your own firm's matters or portal.

  • Note whether you sign in with an email and password or with Google — it changes which fix applies.

Fixes

Start with the most common cause and work toward the edge case.

Possible Cause: You accepted the other firm's invitation using the same email as your own firm's login

Cause: An Eve account can be active in only one firm at a time, and it is identified by your email address. When you accept another firm's invitation with the same email, Eve moves that single account to the other firm and deactivates it in your own firm.

Steps:

  1. Ask a firm admin at your own firm to re-invite you to your original account, or contact Eve Support at support@eve.legal to have the invitation resent. Accept the new invitation to reactivate your access.

  2. Understand the trade-off before stopping here: re-activating your own firm's account will deactivate you in the other firm, because the same email can only be active in one firm at a time. To stay in both, continue to step 3.

  3. To belong to both firms at once, use a separate login for each. Keep your own firm on your primary email, and have the other firm send its invitation to a distinct address. The simplest option is a "plus" alias of your existing email — for example, if your login is you@yourfirm.com, have the other firm invite you+firmb@yourfirm.com. Mail still arrives in your normal inbox, but each firm gets its own separate login.

Expected Outcome: You regain access to your own firm's account, and — once each firm is tied to a distinct email — you can stay active in your own firm and the collaborating firm at the same time without being deactivated from either.

Possible Cause: You sign in with Google and the email-alias workaround does not apply

Cause: The plus-alias workaround relies on email-and-password login. If you sign in with Google, your identity is fixed to your Google account, so a plus-alias may not create a usable separate login.

Steps:

  1. Restore access to your own firm using the steps in the previous cause (have a firm admin re-invite you, or contact support@eve.legal).

  2. For the collaborating firm, use a genuinely different email address rather than a plus-alias, or contact Eve Support at support@eve.legal to arrange an alternate login.

Expected Outcome: You regain access to your own firm's account and have a separate, working login for the collaborating firm that does not conflict with your Google sign-in.
