Notifications Not Appearing or Missing in Eve

Last updated: March 9, 2026

Overview

This article resolves issues when you expect to see notifications in Eve but don't receive them or can't find them after they appear. This can happen when notifications don't trigger for certain tasks, when you miss a toast notification and don't know where to find it, or when you're unsure whether notifications work across all your matters or just the one you're currently viewing.

Before You Start — Diagnosis

Confirm the following before attempting any fixes:

  • Check the notification bell icon in the header for a red badge showing unread notification count

  • Verify you're looking for notifications from long-running tasks like medical overviews, blueprints, legal research, or fact searches

  • Confirm whether you dismissed a toast notification or whether it auto-dismissed after 6 seconds

  • Note whether you were working in a different matter when the task completed

Fixes

Possible Cause: Notification Was Dismissed or Auto-Dismissed From Toast

Cause: Toast notifications remain visible for only 6 seconds before automatically dismissing. If you don't click "View" on the toast, it disappears from the screen but the notification persists in the notification panel.

Steps:

  1. Click the notification bell icon in the header at the top of any Eve page

  2. The notification panel opens, showing all your notifications organized by status and time

  3. Look through the list of notifications grouped by Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, and Older

  4. Find the notification you're looking for — it will show the task name, matter name, time it finished or failed, and status

  5. Click "View" on the notification to navigate directly to the task

Expected Outcome: You see the notification you missed in the notification panel and can click through to view the completed or failed task. The notification remains in your activity log even after the toast dismissed.

Possible Cause: Looking in the Wrong Matter for the Notification

Cause: The Global Notifications system shows tasks across all your matters, not just the current one you're viewing. A notification for a task in Matter A will appear in the notification panel even when you're working in Matter B.

Steps:

  1. Click the notification bell icon in the header — this bell is accessible from anywhere in Eve, whether you're on the all matters page or inside a specific matter

  2. Review all notifications in the panel, paying attention to the matter name shown on each notification card

  3. Notifications display which matter they belong to, making it easy to identify tasks across your entire caseload

  4. Click "View" on any notification to navigate directly to that task within its matter

Expected Outcome: You can see notifications for tasks from all your matters in one central location, regardless of which matter you're currently viewing. Cross-matter visibility ensures you never miss important updates.

Possible Cause: Task Type Does Not Trigger Notifications

Cause: Notifications are triggered only for key long-running tasks like medical overviews, blueprints, legal research, fact searches, and agent-drafted documents like demand letters or complaint letters. Not every action in Eve generates a notification.

Steps:

  1. Verify the task you're expecting a notification for is one of the supported long-running tasks: medical overviews, blueprints, legal research, fact searches, or agent-drafted documents

  2. If the task is not one of these types, it will not generate a notification

  3. For supported tasks, check the notification panel by clicking the bell icon in the header to confirm whether the notification was generated

Expected Outcome: You receive notifications only for the long-running tasks that Eve is designed to track. For other tasks, you'll need to check the matter page directly to see results.

Possible Cause: Notification Is Still in "In Progress" State

Cause: Tasks that are still running show an "In progress" status with a loading spinner. These notifications appear in the panel but are grayed out because there's nothing to view until the task finishes or fails.

Steps:

  1. Open the notification panel by clicking the bell icon in the header

  2. Look for notifications with a loading spinner icon — these indicate tasks still in progress

  3. In progress notifications are grayed out and do not have a "View" button because the task has not yet completed

  4. Check back later or wait for a toast notification to appear when the task completes or fails

Expected Outcome: You see the in progress notification in the panel, confirming the task is still running. Once the task completes or fails, the notification updates to show a green checkmark or red alert icon, and you can click "View" to see the results.
