Overview

Eve Research lets Eve search trusted data sources - like statutes, regulations, medical literature, business filings, and web search - from within your chat to answer questions that go beyond your matter documents. It pulls current, publicly available information—such as regulatory updates, medical literature, business filings, and employer background—and returns it with clear citations from sources your firm trusts.

How It Works

Eve's legal research is powered by a comprehensive, purpose-built U.S. case law database that aggregates opinions directly from federal and state court sources and websites. The underlying data originates from official government repositories, including federal court filing systems (like PACER) and state court portals, and is continuously ingested. Coverage spans more than 2,000 federal and state courts, including all federal appellate courts, federal district courts, and state appellate courts across all 50 states and D.C. The database also includes rulings from select federal administrative agencies and specialized courts. It is updated daily, with most new decisions indexed within one business day of publication.

Going forward, Eve will contain a Research toggle in chat to include trusted case law and access to live web content alongside your matter context. Using research is opt-in; users are in full control. If a user toggles on Research, Eve searches the selected sources, then incorporates the findings into her response with full citations.

Research Collections are the core of how Eve Research stays focused and trustworthy. Instead of searching the entire open web, Eve searches a curated category of sources that matches the task—so users don't have to judge which websites are reputable.

Built-in collections are available to every firm out of the box:

• Case Law — Eve's base case law understanding, from official government repositories

• Statutes & Regulations — Federal and state statutes, regulations, and administrative materials

• Medical Research — Peer-reviewed medical literature and clinical reference sources

• Academic Literature — Academic journals, research papers, and scholarly sources

• Business Filings — Corporate filings, entity registrations, and business records

• All Web — The open web; an umbrella covering all of the above source types and more.

Users control trust through Settings > Research, where they enable the feature and create custom collections for the sources their team relies on most. Custom collections built by firm admins appear alongside the built-in ones in the source selector for everyone at the firm.

Every answer that draws on trusted research sources includes full source transparency: the URL, title, publish date, and the relevant excerpt, so users can verify each source with a single click. While Eve searches, a dynamic indicator shows which collection she is using (for example, "Searching Medical Research…").
