How to Create a Medical Overview in Eve

This article shows you how to build a comprehensive medical chronology for a personal injury case using Eve's Medical Overview feature. Eve can process up to 30,000 pages of medical records across all selected documents and organize them into a structured overview with a visit timeline, ICD codes, damages summaries, and bad facts — then export the whole thing as a formatted document.

This workflow is built for legal teams handling matters who need to turn a mountain of medical records into something usable, fast.

Prerequisites

  • All medical records, bills, and documentation gathered and ready to upload

  • Documents in a supported format (PDF, Word, or text files)

  • Password protection removed from any secured documents

  • Access to the relevant matter in Eve

File size limits:

  • 30,000 pages total across all selected documents

  • Individual PDFs: no larger than 10,000 pages and 2.5GB per file (PDFs over 2,000 pages are automatically split into 1,000-page chunks during processing)

If your case exceeds the 30,000-page total, narrow your selection to medical files only rather than including all case documents.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare and upload your medical documents

Gather all relevant medical records, bills, and documentation for the case. Organizing files by provider or date before uploading is optional, but it makes reviewing the output easier later.

Navigate to the matter where you want to create the Medical Overview and upload your documents. You don't have to get everything in now — you can add more files during file selection in Step 2.

When the upload finishes, you should see all your files listed in the matter's document section.

2. Run the 'Create medical overview' skill

From the skills panel in your matter, select Create medical overview. Eve will open a new session page.

In the new session, you'll see the file selection interface. Select every medical document you want Eve to analyze. If you need to add more files at this point, click the Upload button next to Search files.

Optionally, expand Additional details. Here you can provide the incident date and incident details to give Eve extra focus and produce a more thorough response. This section is entirely optional — if you leave it blank, Eve will identify the incident date and details from the documents on her own.

Click Run. You'll see a confirmation that Eve has started processing the Medical Overview.

3. Wait for processing to complete

Processing time varies based on the volume of documents you provide, but typical runs take 15 to 45 minutes.

You won't be able to interact with this specific session while Eve is working. You can, however, start a new session in this or any other matter and keep working — the Medical Overview continues processing in the background. Eve will notify you when it's complete.

4. Review the Medical Overview

Once Eve finishes, access the Medical Overview from the left-hand side panel of your matter. It includes:

  • Summary — contextual summary of the incident and the medical situation

  • Visit timeline — chronological list of all medical visits, treatments, and procedures

  • Bad Facts — Criminal History, Alcohol & Substance Abuse, Relevant Prior Medical History, and Other Accidents & Injuries

  • ICD Codes — diagnostic codes extracted from the medical records

  • Economic Damages — quantified financial losses and medical expenses

  • Non-Economic Damages — pain, suffering, and other non-monetary impacts

Review each section to confirm accuracy and completeness. You can interact with Eve in the session to ask follow-up questions or request clarification on anything in the overview.

Going forward, Eve automatically references this Medical Overview whenever you ask her to generate answers within this matter.

5. Export the overview

Click the export button in the Medical Overview panel. You can export the entire overview or select only the sections you need.

The export is a single .docx file that includes a cover page, table of contents, headers and footers for each section, and the visits timeline view. The treatment calendar view exports separately as a PNG image.

You now have a complete, exportable medical chronology ready for case review, demand letters, or litigation prep.
