Cannot Connect Multiple Case Management Systems in Eve

Last updated: March 10, 2026

Overview

This article resolves the issue when you attempt to connect more than one case management system to a single Eve account. Eve supports only one CMS connection per account to ensure data consistency and prevent conflicts between matter sources. However, you can connect one CMS and one Document Management System (DMS) together to enhance your workflows across platforms.

Before You Start — Diagnosis

Confirm the following before attempting any fixes:

  • You are attempting to connect a second case management system (such as Clio, Litify, SmartAdvocate, or Growpath) to your Eve account

  • You have already connected one CMS to your Eve account

  • You are receiving an error or notification that a second CMS cannot be connected

Fixes

Possible Cause: Account Already Has a CMS Connected

Cause: Eve accounts are limited to one case management system integration to maintain a single source of truth for matter creation and syncing. Connecting multiple CMS platforms would create data conflicts and duplicate matters.

Steps: Choose which case management system should remain connected to your Eve account. If you need to switch to a different CMS, contact your Customer Success Manager to disconnect the current integration before connecting the new one.

Expected Outcome: Your chosen CMS remains connected and continues syncing matters automatically. Any second CMS connection attempt is blocked to protect data integrity.

Possible Cause: Attempting to Use Both CMS and DMS

Cause: You may be confusing a Document Management System (DMS) with a case management system. Eve supports one CMS and one DMS connected simultaneously.

Steps: Verify whether the second system you're attempting to connect is a DMS rather than a CMS. If it is a DMS, contact your Customer Success Manager to set up the DMS integration alongside your existing CMS connection. Both can operate together without conflict.

Expected Outcome: Your CMS continues syncing matters while your DMS provides additional document storage and retrieval capabilities, working together to enhance your workflows across platforms.
