Excluded Bill Still Appears in Medical Timeline

Last updated: March 10, 2026

Overview

When you exclude a bill in the Medical Overview ledger, the corresponding medical visit still appears in the case timeline. Bill exclusion only affects damage totals—it does not remove or hide the related medical visit from your Medical Overview. This behavior is intentional to maintain a complete medical history for your case while allowing you to control which charges count toward damages.

Before You Start — Diagnosis

Confirm the following before attempting any fixes:

  • You have excluded a bill by clicking the Exclude button (eye icon) in the ledger

  • The excluded bill shows a grey background with an "Excluded" label in the ledger view

  • The ledger totals have updated to reflect the exclusion

  • You are viewing the Medical Timeline section of the Medical Overview (not the ledger section)

Fixes

Possible Cause: Expected Behavior — Exclusions Only Affect Damage Calculations

Cause: Bill exclusion in the ledger is designed to remove charges from damage totals without removing the underlying medical visit from your case timeline. This separation allows you to maintain complete clinical context and reference medical details even when those charges don't count toward damages.

Steps: No action needed. This is the intended behavior. The medical visit will remain visible in your timeline so you can:

  • Reference clinical details and treatment history

  • Maintain a complete chronological medical record

  • Review visit context even if the associated charges are excluded from damages

  • Access the full medical narrative for your case

Expected Outcome: The bill remains excluded from ledger totals and damage calculations, but the medical visit continues to appear in the Medical Timeline with all clinical details intact. Your damage totals reflect only included bills, while your timeline shows the complete medical history.

Possible Cause: Confusion Between Ledger View and Timeline View

Cause: The Medical Overview has two distinct views: the ledger (which shows financial data and allows exclusions) and the timeline (which shows clinical visits and treatment history). Exclusions in the ledger view do not affect what appears in the timeline view.

Steps: To verify you're looking at the correct view:

  1. Navigate to the ledger section of the Medical Overview

  2. Confirm the bill shows as excluded (grey background, "Excluded" label)

  3. Check that the summary cards at the top show updated totals without this bill

  4. Switch to the Medical Timeline view

  5. Observe that the visit associated with the excluded bill still appears with full clinical details

Expected Outcome: You can see that the exclusion is working correctly in the ledger (totals are accurate), and the timeline is working correctly by preserving the complete medical record. Both views are functioning as designed for their respective purposes.
