How to Record a Call with Eve Scribe

Last updated: September 29, 2026

Overview

Eve Scribe is a desktop app that records a call on your computer and sends the transcript into Eve, attached to the lead or matter you pick. It runs on Mac and Windows alongside Eve in the browser.

One thing to know before the first call: the call doesn't route itself. You choose the lead or matter inside Scribe while the call is running, and that's where the transcript lands when you hang up.

Before You Start

  • Windows 10, Windows 11, or a Mac. Linux isn't supported.

  • A call you can take on that same computer. Scribe records whatever the computer can hear, so any provider running on the machine works: Zoom Phone, Zoom meetings, Teams, Dialpad, RingCentral, and the rest.

Taking the call on a desk handset? Put it on speakerphone next to the computer and Scribe picks it up. Audio quality is lower than a call running through the computer, so use this when there's no alternative rather than as the default.

Record the Call

  1. Open Eve Scribe on the computer you're taking the call on.

  2. Start or take your call through whatever provider you normally use.

  3. In Scribe, click Record a call. Scribe shows an active recording state for the length of the call, so a glance at the window confirms capture is running.

  4. Click [Add to matter or lead, confirm exact label]. Do this while the call is still live, not after hanging up.

  5. Search for the lead or matter by name and select it. If the name doesn't exist yet, create a new lead or matter from Scribe without leaving the call.

  6. Hang up when you're done. Scribe sends the call to the lead or matter you assigned it to. There's no manual upload step.

  7. Record another call, or open the lead or matter the call was just sent to.

Review the Call in Eve

Open the lead or matter. The call appears with a summary at the top, and every call on that record is listed in the left sidebar.

Read the summary against what was actually said before you rely on it, particularly for dates, figures, and names. The summary is built from the transcript, and a transcript of a bad phone line is a bad transcript.

To put the call to work, open the Select context menu and add it. From there, ask Eve questions about the call in plain language, or run an agent against it the way you would against a document. Anything left out of context isn't visible to Eve for that task.

What Scribe Can't Do Yet

  • Assign a call on its own. The lead or matter is a manual choice every time. If a call is not assigned to a lead or matter, it will live in the Calls section of Eve for assignment later.

  • Run on Linux. Mac and Windows only.

  • Separate your call from everything else the computer is playing. Scribe records system audio output together with your selected microphone, so other audio running during the call is captured too. Close or mute anything else before you record.

If a call ends and nothing arrives in Eve, the usual cause on a Mac is the Screen & System Audio Recording permission not being granted to Eve Scribe in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Turn it on, then quit and reopen Scribe.
