How to Organize Agents with a Tag in Eve
Last updated: September 30, 2026
Overview
A tag is a label on an agent card that the agents library can filter by. It is set when the agent is created and changed from the agent editor.
Each agent carries one tag. That constraint shapes everything else on this page: the tag has to describe a single dimension, and which dimension your firm picks is the decision that determines whether filtering is useful.
Before You Start
At least one agent created, or permission to create and edit agents.
Access to the Agents tab.
Tag an Agent
At creation. The Tags field appears while you build the agent. Enter the tag that fits your firm's convention. Once saved, it appears as a label on the agent card.
Tagging at creation costs a few seconds. Going back through a library of untagged agents later does not.
On an existing agent. Go to Agents, find the agent, click the ••• menu on its card and select Edit. Update the Tags field and click Save. Because an agent holds one tag, editing replaces rather than adds. The new tag applies to filters immediately.
Decide What Your Tags Describe
With one tag per agent, a tag cannot describe both what an agent does and what practice area it serves. Pick one dimension and use it firm-wide. If half the firm tags by practice area and half by matter stage, the filter is useless to everyone.
Dimension | Tags look like | Works best when |
|---|---|---|
Practice area | Personal Injury, Employment, Family Law | The firm handles several practice areas and attorneys mostly work within one. |
Matter stage | Intake, Pre-litigation, Discovery, Trial Prep | The firm is single-practice, so practice area distinguishes nothing. |
Output type | Demand Letter, Chronology, Client Update | People reach for agents by the deliverable they need rather than by case posture. |
When someone opens the Agents tab looking for something, what do they already know? If they know they are working a PI case, tag by practice area. If everything is PI and they know they are in discovery, tag by stage.
Agree on How Tags Are Written
"Discovery" and "Disc" are two different tags to the filter. Settle three things and write them down:
Spelled out or abbreviated. "Pre-litigation" or "Pre-lit", not both.
Singular or plural. "Deposition" or "Depositions".
Capitalization. Consistent casing keeps near-duplicates out of the tag list.
Firm Admins are best placed to set the convention. The part that keeps it working is one person reviewing the tag list periodically and catching drift. A look each quarter is enough.
Let the Name Carry What the Tag Cannot
Since the tag holds one dimension, put the other in the name. With agents tagged by practice area, a name like "Demand Letter, Chronological Injuries" tells people the rest at a glance.
Filter the Library
Filter by tag. Use the filter dropdown at the top of the Agents tab and select a tag. The list narrows to agents carrying it.
Filter by type or sharing setting. The same dropdown filters by agent type (chat, drafting, communication, or Eve's pre-built agents) and by sharing setting (Only me or Shared).
Combine filters. Shared drafting agents tagged "Discovery" come up in one pass. This covers some of what a second tag would do, since type already tells you what kind of output an agent produces.
Filter inside a matter. Open the agents section within the matter and use the same dropdown, rather than browsing the full library mid-task.
