How to Create and Manage Collections in Central Library
Last updated: March 10, 2026
Overview
This article walks you through creating collections in Central Library, uploading files to those collections, and managing the files you've added. Central Library is where firm administrators organize files that any user can reference across all Matters — like legal research, expert materials, or information from past cases. Only firm administrators can create and manage collections.
Prerequisites
You must be a firm administrator to create and manage Central Library collections
Files must meet Central Library limits: up to 5GB or 2,000 pages per file, with a total library capacity of 20,000 files across all collections
Supported file types include: PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, VTT, JPEG, PNG, EML, MSG, WAV, MP3, and others
Step-by-Step Instructions
Access Central Library — Click Central Library in the left-hand navigation panel. You should see the main library view where all collections are displayed.
Create a New Collection — Click the "Create Collection" button to begin creating a new collection. A dialog or form will appear prompting you to name the collection.
Name Your Collection — Enter a descriptive name for the collection (for example: "Expert Witness Materials" or "Legal Research - Employment Law"). The collection will now appear in your library view as a named folder.
Upload Files to a Collection — Open the collection you just created and click the upload button. Select the files you want to add from your computer. The files will begin uploading and appear in the collection once complete. You can upload multiple files at once.
Manage Files in a Collection — To remove files, select one or more files in the collection view and click the remove or delete option. You can remove files individually or in bulk by selecting multiple files at once. Removed files will no longer be available in Matters.
Read Files in the Collection View — To preview a file, select it in the collection screen. The file content will display in a reading pane, allowing you to review the document without leaving the Central Library interface.
