Auto Agent Output Not Appearing in Activity or Notifications in Eve
Last updated: March 10, 2026
Overview
This article helps you resolve situations where an Auto Agent ran successfully but the output is not visible in Activity or Notifications. This usually occurs when activity filters are configured to hide the result, when the 'Important' filter excludes routine outputs, or when the agent's output does not meet the criteria for importance notifications. This affects both the cross-matter Activity page and the Eve Homepage Agent Activity section.
Before You Start — Diagnosis
Confirm the following before attempting any fixes:
Verify that the Auto Agent actually ran by checking the Auto Agent Log (Agents > Auto Agent Log) and confirming the matter shows "Output generated"
Check that you are viewing the correct Activity page (cross-matter Activity vs matter-specific Activity) where the output should appear
Note whether you are looking for the output in Activity (which shows all agent results) or Notifications (which only alerts for specific types of activity)
Confirm the time range filter on the Activity page includes the time period when the agent ran
Fixes
Possible Cause: Activity Filter Hiding the Agent Output
Cause: The Activity page has filters that can hide certain types of activity. If you have the "User Session" filter active, Auto Agent results will not appear because they are classified as "Auto-Agent" activity, not user-initiated sessions. Similarly, if you are viewing a matter-specific Activity page, you will only see activity for that single matter, not firm-wide results.
Steps:
Navigate to the Activity page (found in the left sidebar below "Matters")
Look for filter tabs at the top of the page: "All Activity", "Auto-Agent", and "User Session"
Click on "All Activity" or "Auto-Agent" to ensure Auto Agent results are included in the view
If viewing matter-specific Activity (inside an individual matter page), confirm you are looking at the correct matter where the agent ran
Check the date range filter if present and expand it to include the time period when the agent executed
Expected Outcome: The Auto Agent output now appears in the Activity feed with a teal-colored description indicating it was automatically generated.
Possible Cause: 'Important' Filter Excluding Routine Results
Cause: The Activity page includes a "Show important only" checkbox that filters out agent outputs classified as routine or non-urgent. Chat Agents that ran a check and found everything on track, or that produced routine status updates with no action required, are not flagged as important and will be hidden when this filter is active. Drafting Agents are always shown as important.
Steps:
Navigate to the cross-matter Activity page
Look for the "Show important only" checkbox, typically located near the top of the activity feed
Uncheck "Show important only" to display all agent activity, including routine results
Review the full activity list to locate the agent output you expected to see
If the output appears after unchecking this filter, the agent ran successfully but the output was classified as routine
Expected Outcome: All agent activity is now visible, including outputs that did not meet importance criteria. Routine results appear without the teal "important" indicator.
Possible Cause: Agent Output Does Not Meet Notification Criteria
Cause: Notifications are only sent for specific types of activity: Medical Overview updates, matter activation from Leads, and manually-run drafting agents that have completed. Auto Agents that produce Chat outputs do not trigger notifications even when marked as important — they only appear in Activity. Users expecting a notification for an Auto Agent Chat output will not receive one because notifications and Activity serve different purposes.
Steps:
Confirm the type of agent that ran: Chat Agent or Drafting Agent
If it is a Chat Agent (even an important one), understand that no notification is sent — check the Activity page or Eve Homepage Agent Activity section instead
If it is a Drafting Agent that ran automatically (via trigger), check the Activity page directly rather than waiting for a notification
If you need real-time alerts when this agent runs, consider checking the cross-matter Activity page regularly or accessing the Eve Homepage which surfaces important Auto Agent activity
For manually-run Drafting Agents, notifications will appear in the bell icon at the top of the page when the draft is complete
Expected Outcome: You locate the agent output in the Activity page or Eve Homepage Agent Activity section, even though no notification was sent. You understand which activity types generate notifications versus which only appear in Activity.
Possible Cause: User Viewing Activity Page Before Hourly Evaluation Cycle Completed
Cause: Auto Agents evaluate matters on an hourly cycle. If you check the Activity page within the same hour that a trigger condition was met, the agent may not have run yet because the evaluation has not occurred. The next evaluation happens at the top of the next hour (e.g., if a document is uploaded at 2:35 PM and the agent is configured to run On Matter Update, the first evaluation attempt occurs at 3:00 PM).
Steps:
Note the time when the triggering event occurred (e.g., when the document was uploaded)
Wait until the next full hour has passed (e.g., if upload was at 2:35 PM, wait until after 3:00 PM)
Refresh the Activity page after the top of the hour
If the agent still has not run, check the Auto Agent Log to see if the condition was evaluated and whether it was met
Review the "Condition not met" explanation in the Auto Agent Log if the agent evaluated but did not produce output
Expected Outcome: The agent output appears in Activity after the hourly evaluation cycle completes. If it does not appear, the Auto Agent Log shows why the condition was not met or why the matter was skipped.
